"The Proud Father's Run"

Last Monday I had a cold.  My throat hurt, my head throbbed and I felt sick.  We'd not been to a Monday run for a few weeks due to the Nash Hash, weekend excesses and another long weekend when we ran down in Pattaya, so I wasn't going to let a little thing like a virus stop me getting back to a Bangkok Monday run.

The run site was the restaurant on the other side of the river at Pakkret, a 2 baht boat ride from the market on this side.  There was a good turn out of runners, including a few visitors and long time returners, including  A Man Called Horse, but no sign of the GM, the JMs, or the hare.  Luckily Spinning Dwarf as the highest ranking committee member (well he is tall and fairly rank) saved the day and called us to order and set us off on time.  Still no hare and no sign of paper, but then flour was spotted on the left and off we jogged.  The first check foxed us as we expected it to be on through the Wat (like last time) but instead lead us off through fields and round houses. Hashendale had spent time with a pack of coloured chalks drawing arrows and writing little messages in a myriad of colours which made a pleasant change from the usual white.  In fact the first 3/4 of the run was quite imaginative with some good fields and paths and not much concrete.  One part took us past a large excavated hole.  Were they digging a hole to make a big pond or taking the contents out to build something else?

Nearest and Dearest and Beefeater went down into the centre for a closer look but were still none the wiser and on we ran.  My favourite part was a series of raised banks around the paddy fields, where it was difficult to see the flour and so it allowed the pack to get back together again.  The views were impressive and it looked to be an attractive sunset.

Not much further was the ON IN , a boring 2km stretch of road.  Apparently Hashendale got hot and tired at this point (too many nights kept awake already?) so brought us in the fast way rather than doing another loop.  The result was a 45-50 minute run which was fine by me as I'd finally got my appetite back and as, the snacks included tofu, I was able to pig out a bit.  Thanks Daeng!

Quite a few people ran late, and some including The Great Pudenda and Bullet decided not to run at all. After snacks and drinks  Spinning Dwarf  called the circle to order bringing in the hare, visitors and returners.  Sadly my headache had now reached sledgehammer proportions so Weed Eater carried me back to the car at this point so I missed the rest of the circle.  I am sure it was marvellous and that Hashendale was duly congratulated, commiserated or generallly teased at the birth of his baby daughter.

I am sorry that I wasn't there to join in.
