You may remember we met at a party given for Dirk Bogarde by Rudy McDowall.
Rock Hudson introduced us. You immediately struck me as so very very direct, so very very – well, primitive is not the word, but you have an almost Neanderthal simplicity about you that I confess I found most appealing. And, dearest Fred, I shall never forget your leopard-skin blouson, barely covering those marvellously meaty legs of yours. I would dearly love to see you tackle one of the great classical roles. I feel sure that you make a gorgeous Hamlet. I was also pleased to meet your dear little mousey wife Wilma, who I feel sure must be a tremendous support. And then, dear Fred, what happened on the run that Jeanine set which my am-dram colleague ‘The Bug’ co-hared.
This was an out and in with very little difference I would proffer. We ran passed the ON IN so close to the going out and so we all knew what was going to happen. Well, my darling, it did. Everyone and his coiffered poodle shortcutted, even that great athlete, ‘Man Called Horse’. I know, ‘Twin Peaks’ told me so very very confidentially. ‘The Bug’ would look, I think, an absolute dear with a crew cut, perhaps in shorts and a tight fitting polo neck in mauve or tangerine.
