Run:- 1259 Date:- 7 May 2007.
Location:- Klong Rangsit.
Hares:- Rod and Vichai Cool
Scribe:- Simon KitchenBridge Over a Khlong Yai
Starring : The sadistic Colonel Vichai Saito Cool
Co Starring : The loopy Colonel Rodders ‘Nicholson’ Turner. We should have expected it of these 2 really; anyone who survived the 2004 route March across the Prapadaeng mangroves and mud reaches set by the same duo (when they nearly drowned BH3s finest) knows what this combination are capable off when let loose.
1530 at Nakhon Nayok and we were all boarded and then bussed some 40 km. to point B. The cohare was noted to be sporting a considerable amount of mud on his socks and shoes. Was it mud from last week or this week? Snippets of Stories concerning the haring of this run poured forth from the cohare who seemed overkeen to ‘shop’ his mate with the blame.
“Banana trees to cross a Khlong”
“No way through”
“Lost his mobile in the Khlong-no answer only glug glug”
“Purchased 2 plants for 500 Baht”
“At least 6 Khlongs to cross”
“Other sections may have flooded”
As we left the bus the cohares last assurance
“Only 7 km.” (How much Heineken had he drunk?)The first 2 kms through a pine forest before emerging at a nasty ditch crossing. Steep on the far side and a hard jump, wet feet for most of us. So no marks awarded for the cohares first bridge, as it didn’t exist. Then a long stretch up the dirt track 2 kms plus, where a loop was promptly shortcut by half the pack led by Ghengis. More tracks, some cane ditch crossings then a felled tree spanning about ¾ of a wide ditch/ khlong. Most got wet feet here as more timber was brought in to assist crossing.
On across the rice paddy to a decoy log crossing, where twenty meters further on there was simple road crossing, a number of us were tricked by that one. Then to the cohares famous 4 x 2 bridge, however a false call by Ghengis led most of the pack on a long loop around the banana orchard thus avoiding the coheres final engineering masterpiece (possibly the pinnacle achievement of his carreer) and by all accounts the Hare’s hazardous exit ‘banana tree’ bridge from the orchard. A few hardy hashers reportedly swam that section. Then the long OnIn through the rainstorm along the mud and laterite tracks to the Beertruck at point ‘C’- 12 kms!
Excellent nibbles, and then the weary and wet survivors were bussed back to the restaurant at Point ’A’. Circle, down downs, returners, visitors, tit of the week the hare- well it had to be really after that effort. Down Down for Maverick honoured on the web as a master of trash. GM explained that he takes no responsibility for 2 cock ups in 2 weeks – how so,- is he losing control?
Excellent On On where we heard bold talk of rebellion on BH3 as the fallout over the harmettes 25th continues.
Will Orange get squashed? Who knows? We await Saturdays big non event.
Thanks to the hares for all their splendid efforts and an excellent afternoon’s entertainment enjoyed immensely by a throughly wet pack.
