Run:- 1307 Date:- 7 April 2008.
Location:- Tien Lai Restaurant, Nakon Inn Road
Hare:- No No
Scribe:- MaverickBy a cruel twist of fate the Saturday Hash was almost within spitting distance of where our trail was to be this Monday. However, our hare – No No – must have talked to the RA, as there was an almighty downpour on Sunday morning (ruining the day for ordinary folk who wanted to go out and enjoy the sunny spring weather on their day of rest) which washed away any trace of the Saturday paper. In case any old paper did remain, the hare laid the trail using a gay mixture of pink and white paper.
Come the hare’s big day I joined the Hash Taxi from Sukhumvit on a stand-by basis. I hadn’t previously checked in online, but fortunately there was an empty seat I was able to take. The Sukhumvit Taxi Meister had calculated that being a holiday the journey should take 35 minutes, but we must have been lucky at one set of traffic lights as we did it in 30. As I got out of the taxi Noriega asked me how much Todd had charged for the ride, and on being told it was B50 he confided that that was but half what he had charged his passengers – and we hadn’t had to push the taxi to get it started.
Unusually for a Monday run George of the Jungle, Pussy Virus and Thebastion were there before we set off (more people who had been lucky at the traffic lights). Also present were some long time returners like Le Papier from the EU and Stiffy Lauer from Japan.
The trail set off alongside the main road back towards the Rama 5 Bridge. To break up a rather long stretch of road the Hare put a forward check, but this didn’t slow down FRB Bruised Willy for long. At the first opportunity the trail led us off the main road along a concrete path through verdant vegetation. It wasn’t long before the trail took us imaginatively into narrow soil paths between irrigation ditches and across a log which might flatteringly be called a bridge. The pack got spread out during this section, but soon after passing the police station a left turn lead to a long false trail which gave your scribe a chance to catch up with the pack. We then followed the concrete road to Ratchapreuk Road, and then another concrete road that took us back towards the beer.
During this section of the trail I was enlightened as to how little knowledge people in the outside world have of the Principality of Wales (Twysogaeth Cymru in the vernacular – try saying that when you’re sober!). Running with No Good Boyo, who was wearing a shirt with a Welsh (not Bhutanese) dragon on it a passing car slowed, and after winding down the window the occupants asked if we were American. I was told later that the car was occupied by three Thais and one Italian, though I’m not clear how anyone found that out.
After a long time on the road the trail took us left along a path leading to another road, where we found Hater Peacox cursing the FRBs for not spreading the check.
By the time I reached the beer almost everyone else was back, except Love Canal and George Of the Jungle, who had decided to walk and solve the world’s problems at the same time. The circle was conducted in an atmosphere not dissimilar to that found in Chiang Mai at this time of year, as two hashers decided to celebrate that they had kissed and made up by burning rolled up tobacco leaves. In the circle Love Canal presented The Bug with an appropriate T-shirt – it had the Bug’s favourite word on it – “Crap”. At PoW time Thebathtion urged that BMH3 returned to the tradition of awarding it to a harriette, but the way I remember things it was always his father Limbo who won. Perhaps he knows something about Limbo we don’t. After a close run contest The Bug won for falling asleep while wearing his new Crap T-shirt.
