Hare:- Hashendale

Departing from the office on a fine sunny evening I was looking forward to the promised run in virgin territory. On the expressway and huge clouds formations way way in the distance, they are miles and miles away. Ha - someone is having a real storm, and hey lucky its not heading our way………… WRONG

It was soon pissing down with 20 years visibility. U turn at the bottom of the ramp said the directions, we can’t U turn at the bottom of the ramp - it’s one way…. 2 taxis, the beer truck and us parked under the motorway…. Lost…..local assistance was called upon and presto 10 minutes later we all arrived at THE restaurant that had mysteriously changed its name, minor problem because still bucketing down. There stood the Hare like the proverbial drowned rat, a sorry sight waving his arms around aimlessly perhaps directing cars into that too small car park or hysterically ranting about his luck with the weather....A beer was called for..... Circle up said the Bog.

Of course we all have experienced it ….2 hours into setting the perfect trail and the heavens open-up and all our efforts washed anway and wasted.

Real Hashers - or was the sympathy vote that prompted almost everyone to head out in the rain, which by 5.30 had fortunately subsided somewhat, the Hare racing off in front by a few minutes to try and make emergency repairs, live hare style.

Less than 2 minutes into the run and on thru muddy floodwater, well that’s the feet wet bit over with… A check caught most out going right while AGM Beefeater, John Mc swirly and ? went left – never to be seen again. Left it was.

The second check in a swamp took a while to solve and the FRB’s hadn’t left any clues. By now the steady rain wasn’t causing as much concern as the treacherous slippery conditions that ensured that everyone was not only wet but also covered in mud and falling over at some stage or other. Me thinks that even on a dry day there would have been lots of black shiggy. Nevertheless there were some good running sections interspersed with the fish ponds and rice paddies with those narrow slippery paths. Back in about an hour for the front guys. An enjoyable jaunt - but it was a relief to get washed and changed into dry clothes. POW was Jumpstart who was nominated by Sunee for a reason I cant remember.

A popular choice though. Earlier Captain Eric, Sunee, Jumpstart and T Rex were seen finishing a 5 course pre-dinner feast much to the disbelief of the returning pack. Conspicuous hovering around was Deputy Doug, non-runner and on the beers since we headed out. He almost beat Jumstart for POW in his 70’s style posing outfit that likely may have fitted in those days. Notable too was No No who managed to liberate a buchetful of prawns painstakingly extracted over many hours by a local from the murky waters of the big pond in the middle of the restaurant. Hope noone suffered from food poisoning in revenge; regrettably I can’t vouch for the food as I didn’t stay on on on.

A good virgin area and an enjoyable evening on on to run 1370!
