Bangkok Monday Hash House Harriers

The up-market bus dropped us off, in deep traffic, a mere 1½ kms from where paper was to be found. We were not alone, however, as words of gentle encouragement were issued by an immaculately dressed hare who was gently sweeping behind us, and urging us ever khlong-wards. “There you are now. Go straight along this road for err 500 meters, 600 or 700 meters and then you will probably find some paper!”

And so it was ! Despite the occasional paucity of paper, the trail was really first class, and gave us a lot of excellent hashing in varied terrain, surprisingly close to the centre of town.

At one stage whilst belting along the trail, we encountered a bald, nearly naked Frenchman (naturally coming in the opposite direction) who assured us that we were on the right trail, and that we had to find the wall, go along it a few yards, and then rush through an ‘ole in said wall, which we duly did. (On the other side of this wall, let it be said, there was bugger all paper). However this diversion caused Hash Hash to display a schoolgirl tantrum of impressive proportions at the alleged sight of a giant reptile. Whether this was because of ingrained Herpetophobia (or even Ophidiophobia which is slightly more serious) or was simply a substance-induced illusion we may never know. Your scribe, at any rate, was unaware of the allegedly growing population of Anacondas in the Kingdom.

Back at the gathering point, a radiant and beaming GM returned at around 19:45 to relieved applause, and immediately (yes! – even in a near pre-beer condition) started the circle. In the absence of the Hare, who begged non-attendance due to parental responsibilities, lucky Stevie Blunder was honoured with his duties. He did not sport the requisite head injuries which would have made the impersonation even more realistic (although, it should be noted, there were several volunteers to remedy this deficiency).

Prick of the week was dispensed with appropriate Thai Democratic justice to a suitably innocent and unsuspecting American visitor (Grayson?) from Bali Hash, on some completely false premise or another. After the circle, several of the Hashers rushed off to the On-on-on, finally settling upon a Restaurant in Soi 23 where they enjoyed super grub at acceptable Hash prices.

All-in-all, an excellent evening out: good Hashing and an enjoyable circle.
